Paul Nicholls is considering options for Tingle Creek winner Politologue this season, including stepping him up in trip.

Speaking at his annual owner's day w at Manor Farm stables in Ditcheat, Somerset, Nicholls said: "He had a great campaign but ran a bit below his best in the Champion Chase, where he travelled so well before fading. So we stepped him up to two and a half miles in the Melling Chase, put the tongue-tie on, and bingo – he stayed on strongly from the back of the last.

"I think he’s basically a stayer, so we could be brave, step him up to three miles and go straight for the Betfair Chase, which is likely to be his first big target. And if he shows us he stays, the King George would then be the obvious race to aim at. Kempton’s flat track would suit him so much better than somewhere like Cheltenham, where he's never won.

"We also have the option of starting off in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree, but at this moment the preferred option is to head straight to Haydock in November."
